UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 4, 2021 | IN-STUDIO CLASSES CANCELLED FOR NOW

Our hearts ache for our city and community as we continue to face the challenges of the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. While many of us at Free To Be, like many others across our city, have been displaced from this storm, we are all safe and accounted for.

Studio Update: Free To Be has cancelled all in-studio classes for now as the city focuses on restoring power, taking care of those that have stayed in New Orleans, and cleaning up the damage.  At this time, we are putting our attention on getting some livestream (zoom) classes up, helping each other, and seeing what relief efforts we can support. Follow our instagram page for updates. For now, our biggest hope is that you are all safe and well!

UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 26, 2020 | UPTOWN IS RE-OPENING!

Free To Be Power Yoga Uptown is opening! AGAIN! We have missed our beloved first born studio and YOU! We are ready to get back at it inside the 4609 Magazine Street studio!

We've heard your feedback and requests and have created a hybrid schedule of indoor and outdoor classes in Uptown, NOLA to best serve the community!

Take a look at the new Uptown schedule.
*All outdoor classes are weather permitting. If weather will impact the class, you will be notified 1.5 hours before the class.

UPDATE: AUGUST 22, 2020 | WE'RE MOVING BACK INSIDE
Beginning Tuesday, August 25th, we are GOING BACK in the studios for practice. For a few classes per week, we are headed back inside to flow and sweat :) And, yes we will be practicing with masks on. Our team and teacher trainees got to experience the practice with masks on all last weekend. And, it worked!  It is totally possible to practice yoga and wear a mask, so let’s do this!

Noa Rose, a teacher in training, said this after her practice this weekend,

"While I was initially apprehensive about practicing with my mask on, I found the experience to be nearly identical to my pre-COVID yoga practice. My breathing remained even and calm. I  found my indoor practice to create a stronger sense of community among the class, particularly after having mainly practiced via Zoom and outdoors for the past several months."

We will continue to offer outdoor classes too! The schedule will be a blend of indoor and outdoor classes, and, of course, the live streaming and zooming will continue. Our goal is to give you access to the practice at your own comfort level.

Take a look at the schedule we’ve got coming your way (be sure to click on “All Locations”).
We are so excited to get back to the mat with our community in the FTB spaces. Will you join us?

P.S. Don’t forget to sign up beforehand for garage yoga and indoor yoga. Space is limited! Late fees and cancellations will apply to these classes.

UPDATE: JULY 21, 2020 | UPDATED FAQ'S ABOUT CLASSES
Many of you have had some great questions since the changes of moving outside has occurred. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions. Reach out to us at info@freetobepoweryoga.com if you have more!

“Where are outdoor classes being held?”
We are hosting outdoor classes in four different locations. Our Downtown Location is held in the Garage right below the studio (725 Magazine Street). Our OM location is held in the studio's parking lot (2328 Metairie Road) and Pontiff Playground (1521 Palm Street, NOLA). Our Uptown location is held in Laurence Square Park (corner of Napoleon and Magazine Street). For the exact locations within the parks, look for the little orange flags and the teacher will be there!

“Why aren’t the studios open?”
The studios are not open due to the recent face mask mandates. We feel for the safety of our community and staff that practicing inside right now needs to be paused.

“How many Zoom classes are available this week?”
All of our Downtown Garage classes are livestreamed AND we have added some zoom only classes to the schedule. We will continue to look at the schedule and see where we can add outdoor classes and zoom classes. If you have any requests, email info@freetobepoweryoga.com.

“Will no shows and late cancels be charged?”
Yes and No. Late Cancels and No Shows will apply for the garage and parking lot classes only. These classes are limited. For classes in the parks, we will not apply late cancels or no shows.

"Do I need to preregister for class?"
YES! You must register for class before showing up.

"Do the same in-studio packages and memberships apply to outdoor and garage yoga?"
Yes, they do! Our teachers and staff are creating the same experience as inside. And, remember that members get the Hub and online classes included in their package.

“What happens when it rains for park yoga classes?”
One of our staff members will text you if class has to be cancelled. Please keep your contact info updated in MindBody. If it rains in the middle of class, we may just stick it out:) Be ready for anything!

UPDATE: JULY 13, 2020 | FREE TO BE IS MOVING OUTSIDE!
To our beloved and dedicated community,

Due to increased cases of COVID-19 and updated state mandates, we have decided to temporarily stop all indoor studio classes out of an abundance of caution for our community. Starting today, July 13th, there will no longer be indoor classes on the schedule. As soon as we feel we can safely open the doors back up, we absolutely will.

We've quickly shifted our focus to give the full experience of classes for our members and package holders. We are replacing our indoor classes with outdoor classes in parks, parking lots and garages. All memberships and packages will apply to these classes.  In addition, we will add back our Zoom Only classes live streamed from teachers’ homes, and we have added a whole bunch more classes to the FTB Everywhere On-Demand Hub!

We will have the rest of this week’s schedule up to date by tonight (July 13, 2020). Keep checking Mindbody, our websiteFacebook, and instagram for the most recent updates.

For information about what we are doing to keep you safe in outdoor spaces, hop over to our blog post this week! We provide details on what we are asking of you and what we will be doing.

If you have any questions about our new updates, memberships or packages, reach out to info@freetobepoweryoga.com.

With love and gratitude,
Kelly and Janae and the FTB Staff

How long will the studios operate with a limited schedule and class capacity?

We have no idea! As state and local officials announce the next phase of reopening, we intend to increase class sizes and offerings. To stay up to date on our journey as we work towards operating at full capacity - click here to subscribe to our newsletter. In addition, continue to check the schedule here week to week as class times may change while we are exploring what works at all three locations.

How do I sign up for in - person classes?

Check out the Mindbody schedule (link this) to sign up for classes. For more details, read How To Sign Up For In-Person + Virtual Classes on the Free To Be Blog.

How long will Zoom classes be offered?

Zoom classes are here to STAY FOREVER through our Free To Be Everywhere Virtual Studio! We are excited to stream live classes to the Zoom platform for members so that moving forward, you can literally practice with us from anywhere!  This is a total game changer! Your suspension will be lifted once all three studios are open. The exact date is TBD, so keep checking back for more details. Once all three FTB studios are operating at a larger class capacity, class packages will be restricted to the studio of purchase (as the policy stated when originally purchased) and expiration dates will be extended based on COVID impacts. Continue to monitor your email for more specific details. We promise to take care of you!

UPDATE: JUNE 11, 2020 | FREE TO BE OLD METAIRIE IS OPEN!

With careful consideration, diligent planning and with the loosened restrictions from our state and health officials, we have decided that it is time to RE-OPEN our Old Metairie studio! THIS WEEK!

AND as a HUGE THANK YOU to you for your commitment and support, we are opening the studio for classes for just you (our unlimited members) for the first week of in person classes at the Old Metairie location! We are able to welcome 10 students into each class to maintain the 6 foot social distance requirement. While we all will have new protocols and procedures to follow once we are back together in the studio, we feel confident that this is the best decision for our community to move forward!

We have plans to open the Downtown studio next week! And for now, WE CELEBRATE the opportunity to open in Metairie!

Please stay informed via email in the next several hours and couple of days as to the class registration process (you must sign up online in advance to reserve your spot in the studio) late cancel and no-show policy, along with other details/updates. Below is an outline of in studio “operational best practices” for you to review so you are fully prepared and in the know on what to expect!

  • SICKNESS: First, if you, or an immediate family member is sick, running a fever, showing signs of COVID-19 or other illness please do NOT come to the studio. If you have traveled on an airplane within two weeks, you may be asked to practice from home. We are asking the same of our staff.
  • We will be performing temperature checks on all teachers and staff upon arriving to the studio. If they have a temperature of 100.4 or higher, they will be sent home.
  • PRE-REGISTRATION: We will have a new check-in system that requires clients to register online in advance for all classes. You MUST be pre-registered online before coming to the studio for class
  • EFFICIENCY: Two staff members will be available at each class to support with check in and get you on your mat efficiently. You will be directed by a staff member to your spot to practice. Embracing Southern Hospitality :)
  • FACE MASKS: Our front desk/check in staff will be wearing face masks. Teachers will be wearing face shields while teaching the class. We ask that you wear a face mask when entering the studio and you are welcome to remove it once you are on your mat for practice.
  • CLEAN HANDS: We will have hand sanitizer stations in many different locations in the studio with a requirement that you sanitize hands when you come in and again the moment you get off your mat.
  • ENTERING/EXITING THE STUDIO: You will enter the studio in a strategic manner avoiding large groups of people from gathering. You will enter via the main front door to the Old Metairie studio and then you will be directed to leave through the back exit (through the second lobby). This will support us in ensuring as little congestion as possible in the spaces and reducing the spread of germs between us all.
  • RESTROOMS: We have installed paper towel and soap dispensers into the restrooms we maintain. Communal bathrooms at the Old Metairie studio are managed by the Landlord. We will request these items be available.
  • MATS & PROPS: There will be no rentals or shared props at this time. Please bring your own mats, towels, blocks, straps and anything else you need for class.
  • 6 FEET DISTANCE: There are mat spaces taped out on the floor to identify that all practitioners are at leastt 6 feet away from each other and we ask you to place your mat within the taped sections.
  • EXIT FLOW: We will ask that you get to your mat quickly and stay on your mat until the teacher dismisses the classes by rows.
  • BETWEEN CLASS TIMES: Upon reopening we will incorporate at least 1 hour between classes to maintain our exceptional cleaning procedures that we implemented pre-Covid.
  • LATE CANCELLATION FEES: There will be a no show and late cancellation policy with the limited class sizes. Learn the details of this policy here.
  • CASHLESS: We have become a cashless studio during this time to prevent the handling of money with our staff. Credit cards and debit cards only. We highly recommend you put your card on file now. Please email alan@freetobepoweryoga.com if you want to discuss putting your card on file or adding a credit to your account to make purchases without cash in the studio.
  • ONLINE CLASSES: We will continue with all of our online platforms in conjunction with the opening of the studio FOREVER. You will have more opportunities to practice and stay well more than ever before Covid-19 (a silver lining).
  • KIDS: No children in the studios until further notice.

UPDATE: MAY 16, 2020 | IS FREE TO BE OPENING YET?

We miss you, and have loved interacting with you virtually over the last couple of months. So many of you have showed up on Instagram LiveZoom and the online hub. Thank you! If you are still learning about these outlets, check them out here.

-

The above quote definitely got me because we are truly making our way through this time. We have adapted each day to new challenges and opportunities. We will continue to make our way in collaboration with you.

Our hopes and dreams were to open one or more of the studios this weekend with Phase 1. Unfortunately, there are still some restrictions that are prohibiting us to open in a way that we feel will keep you safe and our staff safe. We are watching updates closely and developing a plan so that when we can open, we can deliver you the yoga you love in a safe and welcoming environment. When we do open our doors, we will adhere to state and city guidelines. Additionally, we have developed the following procedures/policies to maintain the health and safety of this community.

  • IF YOU ARE SICK: First, if you, or an immediate family member is sick, running a fever, showing signs of COVID-19 or other illness please do NOT come to the studio. If you have traveled on an airplane within two weeks, you may be asked to practice from home. We are asking the same of our staff.
  • CHECK IN SYSTEM: We will have a new check-in system that requires clients to enter the studio in a strategic manner avoiding large groups of people from gathering. This check-in process may look different at each location.
  • EFFICIENCY: Two staff members will be available at each class to support with check in and get you on your mat efficiently.
  • FACE MASKS: Our front desk/check in staff will be wearing face masks. Depending on what the next phase presents, we will know if face masks need to be worn during practice.
  • CLEAN HANDS: We will have hand sanitizer stations in many different locations in the studio with a requirement you sanitize hands when you come in and again the moment you get off your mat.
  • RESTROOMS: We are installing paper towel and soap dispensers into the restrooms we maintain. Communal bathrooms at the Downtown and Old Metairie studios are managed by the Landlord. We will request these items be available.
  • MATS & PROPS: There will be no rentals or shared props at this time. Next week, we will send out information on how you can purchase your yoga gear at a discounted rate so you are ready to practice.
  • 6 FEET DISTANCE: We will tape out mat spaces on the floor to be  at least 6 feet away from each other and we ask you to place your mat in the taped section.
  • EXIT FLOW: We will ask that you get to your mat quickly and stay on your mat until the teacher dismisses the classes by rows.
  • BETWEEN CLASS TIMES: Upon re-opening we will incorporate at least 1 hour between classes to maintain our  exceptional cleaning procedures that we implemented pre-Covid.
  • LATE CANCELLATION FEES: There will be a no show and late cancellation policy with the limited class sizes.
  • CASHLESS: We will become a cashless studio during this time to prevent the handling of money with our staff. Credit cards and debit cards only. We highly recommend you put your card on file now. Please email (insert a managers email) if you want to discuss putting your card on file or adding a credit to your account to make purchases without cash in studios.
  • ONLINE CLASSES: We will continue with all of our online platforms in conjunction with the opening of the studio FOREVER. You will have more opportunities to practice and stay well more than ever before Covid-19 (a silver lining).
  • KIDS: No children in the studios until further notice.

Thank you for your patience with this process. We will update you with any new policies that get put into place. Watch all communication outlets (email, instagramFTB website and facebook) to stay in the know, because things change so quickly. :)

In the meantime, we want to hear from you. Outside of what is listed above, what else  will make you feel safe and comfortable to practice in the studios? How many of you want to continue to practice from home for a while? We have put together a three minute survey to hear from YOU. Click on this link to view the survey.

Again, we thank you for your commitment and adaptability to the online community. It is because of you all that we can continue on in this great city of New Orleans. We are committed  offer rich experiences and freedom in your whole life through yoga (and wellness).  I am Free To Be, You are Free To Be, and We are Free To Be always and everywhere.

Much love.

UPDATE: APRIL 7, 2020 | WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH YOUR MEMBERSHIP?
Thank you for your support through this wild journey. We miss seeing you in the studios every day. We continue to strive to offer rich experiences and freedom in your whole life through yoga. With swift action and collaboration, the Free To Be team launched Free To Be Everywhere in 72 hours after closing the studios’ doors.

We are proud to announce the online programming is expanding and will offer you continuous content so your practice and your life don’t skip a beat. We remain inspired and excited by your involvement in the new online studio and enjoy being in community via the virtual platforms while we wait to re-open the physical studios’ doors.

Originally the Whole Freedom program was designed to last 30 days and end on April 18th with the hopes and dreams of the storefront locations opening back up by this date. However, social distancing has been recommended until at least April 30th. In efforts of supporting the health and well-being of New Orleans and surrounding areas, the studios will remain closed until April 30th and potentially longer based on future recommendations.

In light of this news, we got back to work! We are bringing you more online content, live classes on a new platform, and impactful programming to fulfill on the value of your monthly unlimited and yearly unlimited memberships. The details of this exclusive content for active monthly unlimited and yearly unlimited members will be released on April 15th. We will continue to provide you quality content to support your at home practice for the remainder of the time that the physical studios are closed.

In addition, we do understand that your financial status may be different right now. If you need to pause or suspend your membership, we are here to work with you. We are not currently offering a blanket membership policy, instead we are working with our members one-on-one to support each person based on their unique needs. No matter what your needs are, we love you and will support you. Most of all, we thank you for supporting us as a small business. Together, we will thrive and survive through this.

If you have any questions regarding your membership or programs, email info@freetobepoweryoga.com with your inquiries. We want to answer any questions you have.

UPDATE: MARCH 15, 2020 | TEMPORARY STUDIO CLOSURES

Dear Beloved Free To Be Community,

With intentional planning and lots of thought, we have decided to temporarily close all three studios.  The intention is to keep our community healthy and safe. We have been following all reliable outlets to make informed decisions on what is best for the whole; our teachers, our staff, our students, our community and New Orleans.

We do not yet have a date of how long we will keep the studios closed. We will follow things day by day and be in communication with you as promptly as possible.

With this there is a silver-lining. We are launching our online platform to deliver classes live and on demand. No matter what, we are committed to continually sharing yoga with you. We will communicate our detailed plans in the coming days and appreciate your patience.

We understand that you may have questions and we are here to answer them as best as we can. Stay tuned for the launch of our online programming that will be accessible to all membership and package holders.

We love you and please remember that we are stronger together even when we are apart.

With love,
Kelly, Janae and the Free To Be team

UPDATE: MARCH 9, 2020 | HEALTH UPDATES AROUND THE STUDIOS

We at Free To Be Power Yoga are on a mission to keep our whole community healthy. We are being very proactive and taking the necessary steps to fulfill this mission. We truly appreciate you collaborating in moving this forward. Stay up to date on all the steps we are taking, changes we are making and news we have to share on this site (along with emails and social media).

Our very first step to a healthy community that we are taking is requesting that if you are feeling sniffly or under the weather, that you wait to come to yoga until you are back at 100%. We are also asking the same of our staff. We understand the need and want to be on your mat. Here is a link to Free To Be's YouTube channel so you have some audio recordings of classes to use while you are at home practicing.

The following are some things you can expect to see at our studios temporarily:

  • No Hands On Assists: There will be no hands on assists. We know you love these hands on assists and we do too! As soon as we can bring this perk of Free To Be back, we will.
  • Rentals: We request you bring your own mat, mat towels and sweat towels. We will still have these items available for rent but on a much more limited basis. We are now using stronger cleaning solutions to support our health mission.
  • Shared Props: Blocks and straps will be removed temporarily from the yoga room. If a block or strap is supportive to your practice, we encourage you to bring your own or get creative; your water bottle and your personal sweat towel can replace a block and a strap. We will use pillow cases over bolsters in the Restorative classes.
  • Lavender Towels: Oh, the lavender towels! We love them so much too, but we will pause with these as well. We promise to bring them back as soon as we can!
  • No iPads at Check In: We have removed the iPads from the studios and you will check in with the teacher or team member at the front desk upon arrival. Just like the good 'ol days :)
  • High Traffic Areas: We will more frequently be cleaning high traffic areas (door knobs, yoga floors, etc) thanks to our staff and Energy Exchange team!
  • Open Doors: We will be leaving the doors to the Uptown and Old Metairie studios open during practice to support with greater air flow and ventilation.

What we are asking of you:

  • Take care of yourself. It is so important to eat healthy and take care of yourself during this time. If you are not feeling 100%, please stay home and get well.
  • Wash yo’ hands my friends. We have hand soap in each bathroom to get your hands clean! There was a funny tweet from a mom in Baton Rouge to her daughter in Washington that says, “Wash your hands like you just ate crawfish and need to put your contacts in.”  Wash your hands like that.
  • Show the love. Give out elbow bumps or a smile instead of sweaty hugs right now. We still want to show all the love in the studios!
  • Be there for each other. Call your elderly and loved ones and check in if they need anything.

We may sound like the moms of the house, and, well, some of us are. Our overall goal is to get you healthy and keep you healthy. This is our very conservative effort to take care of all of you and us. We appreciate each of you and thank you for being a part of our community! If you have any questions/concerns/comments, reach out to us with anything.
