THE ONE THING YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR TEACHER TRAINING

Posted by on

Hey guys, Kristin here,  FTB’s virtual studio manager. Did you know Free To Be’s 200 hour teacher training registration is open? Do the following thoughts run through your head when you think about signing up?

“Teacher Training is something I’ve always wanted to do but the timing never seems right.”

“I’m too busy, who’s gonna watch my kids?!”

“I’m interested but I don’t think I’m ready; I can’t even shoot back from crow yet!”

I hear you. And I’m here to drop some insider knowledge. Confession: when I started teacher training, not only could I not do a headstand, I had never even tried it in the studio!  Not once. Before you talk yourself out of it, you should know this training is not about flashy yoga poses or snappy before and after Insta pics. Although, I bet you’ll be feeling yourself by the end of it …

When I signed up for yoga teacher training in 2018 I had been practicing at Free To Be for about two years and felt the urge to be part of something bigger than myself. I thought I might make a few friends and deepen my practice. I NEVER thought I would actually be a yoga teacher. Flash forward to the end of my training and I was surrounded by 16 of my new best friends (more than half of them were incredible moms with little kids at home - you CAN do it!). I’m talking laugh until you cry, split your pants in front of, tell them anything, count-on-able friends. I was a yoga teacher - certificate and all. AND I actually liked teaching.

In the two years following the end of my training, I ended up switching careers, becoming a manager for Free To Be Power Yoga, and moving across the country to open my very own studio. Teacher training opened up a ton of possibilities in my life both on and off the mat. AND I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT I WOULD BE A YOGA TEACHER.

Ok, ok, enough about me. I’m here to tell you the one thing YOU need to know about teacher training before you sign up. Are you ready? Here it is. The one thing is this : Expect Anything.

That’s it! If you head into teacher training with this mindset, if you are truly open to the experience and embrace the unexpected; fully, wholeheartedly embrace it, I promise you (at least) three BIG things will happen.

  1. You will be able to confidently teach a power yoga class,
  2. You will transform
  3.  You will experience community and learn how to be the catalyst for it.

If you’re still on the fence, head over to Free to Be’s Instagram page and watch Kandice’s testimonial. And if YOU ARE READY to have the tools to create the life you want, to develop deep relationships, to gain strength and confidence in your practice and in your life, sign up for Free To Be’s 2020 teacher training here.

Oh, and just so you know - I’m still working on my headstand. In fact, I fell out of a handstand and crashed into my coffee table during a zoom class last week. It’s about progress, my friends, NOT perfection! No matter what, I am always a student first.

Xx,
Kristin
